@7073M@noauthority.social they've been trying to get it to work since the 80s. the fundamental problem (which there's really no solution to) is it's not possible to put enough energy into the target quickly enough to matter
I don't think laser defense is ever going to be useful for more than destroying the sensors on drones or maybe taking down a hovering drone

I will not be surprised if nukes are used or even already have been used but IMO nukes are a lot less offensively useful in the precision guidance era than people assume they are
late in a long war when high end materiel is running out the calculation might change, but I don't think russia gets much out of using nukes in ukraine. they can already hit targets with precision and it's a rare target that can't be busted with a large conventional weapon but can be busted with a nuke
of course if you just want to kill as many people as possible then sure nukes are great for that

plausible
easy to kneejerk and say nukes can't possibly be used without the whole world screaming about it but idk man plenty of "impossible" conspiracy theories have been proven substantially true. how hard can it be to wrangle the few people on earth who can detect if a clean nuke was used?

>Bob was notorious for his design chops, but also for his messy office. Below is one of his early offices at National, where he won a contest from a newspaper for messiest desk.
>Nancy recollects, “It was a San Jose Mercury News messiest desk contest. Someone entered a picture of his office on his behalf, and asked him if he won a big prize would he share it.
>Bob didn’t know what the prize was at the time.
>The competition was in no way up to his entry, so they gave him 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes.
>The prize was for office furniture. Bob sold it to National and threw a pizza party with the money.”
>The Sunnyvale Fire Marshal said he would cite National for the office. Fran Hoffart remembers, “After being told that his desk presented a fire hazard, Pease hung a smoke detector from the ceiling.”

but when I try to use hobbyist building blocks they don't work
like I can't afford an arduino nano clone sucking down 15 mA in this circuit because they crammed a bunch of extra shit on the board and didn't care about power use. if I just use a PIC16 instead and build the board myself everything in this part of the circuit will draw less than 2 mA, which is fine

I'm finding it very difficult to avoid turning controls projects into electrical engineering or embedded programming projects

digikey says it needs 4 days extra to ship stuff because of high order volumes
I'm sure this isn't a sign of anything bad

the saudi sovereign wealth fund is pivoting to energy-hungry AI and local tourism... and they decided to help start a regional war on top of 56% of the world's oil reserves? bold strategy
